In addition to law enforcement and counter-insurgency and counter-insurgency functions responsibilities, in addition to countering, counter-insurgency and law enforcement duties, CRPF plays a more important role in India's general elections. This is especially true when it comes to the ex-state of Jammu as well Kashmir, Bihar and in the North East, because of the high level of violent and sometimes unrest conflict. In the elections for the legislature of September 1999, the CRPF had a prominent role as a security force. In recent years, CRPF contingents are also being deployed for UN missions.
